Meet the Agents - Judith L. Bell

Judy was born and raised in New England until the age of 16, when she moved to Pennsylvania. She currently resides in Montgomery County with her husband of 27 years and her 14-year-old twin son and daughter. Her oldest son, age 21, has recently moved to Philadelphia to pursue a career in graphic design.

Judy began her insurance career in 1979 when she took a position in the coding department of Harleysville Mutual Insurance Company. To further her career, she took insurance related classes that were offered to her and quickly advanced to a position in the marketing department, where she worked on various projects including demographic studies. Her new position also provided her with the opportunity to be involved in panel discussions with agents to search for ways to improve the company’s products and prices and participate in meetings with agents to introduce new insurance products.

“I really enjoyed working with agents and felt that I could better use my knowledge and skills in an agency position,” says Judy. “So in 1985, I made a career change and worked to obtain my insurance license in property and casualty. With my insurance license and knowledge from other insurance classes, I worked my way up to the position of customer service representative for commercial accounts, where I worked to insure businesses and company assets.”

In 1995, Judy accepted a position at Sterner Insurance as a CSR for both personal and commercial accounts. With the agency growing, she made a career choice to focus on personal lines and became the Personal Lines Manager, where she handles the customer service of clients, acts as a liaison between Sterner Insurance and the insurance companies and handles claims for the agency. While working for Sterner Insurance, Judy also has earned her Certified Insurance Representative (CISR) designation.

“I like the personal touch of getting to know my clients and being able to help with all of their insurance needs for both family and life,” says Judy. “I firmly believe that continuing to take classes to expand my knowledge and keeping up with industry changes is the key to giving the best service to my clients.”
