Meet the Agents - Alan Sterner

Alan is a lifelong resident of Bucks County, PA and currently lives in Milford Township with his wife and three daughters.

Alan started in the insurance industry in February 1988 with Nationwide Insurance. Alan worked in sales and provided service for small commercial and personal lines accounts for Nationwide Insurance. He also managed a satellite office in Perkasie for the agency.

In August 1989 Alan became an independent broker responsible for sales and service of a broad range of commercial accounts with a local agency. This position provided opportunities for extensive work with small to mid-sized companies in all aspects of their insurance programs. Alan’s areas of specialty included property-casualty coverage, group life, health and disability as well as business and estate planning. During his four years in this position, Alan’s personal production of new accounts was over $1,500,000 and he was responsible for servicing the accounts he sold.

In December 1993, Alan and a partner formed Deiley-Sterner Insurance Services in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. Alan’s responsibilities included sales management and marketing for the agency. In December 1996 the agency was re-named to Sterner Insurance.

In 1997, Sterner Insurance joined the Insurance Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, an organization consisting of 11 agencies located throughout the Lehigh Valley and Central Pennsylvania. The Alliance enhances the products and services that are available to the customers of the member agencies and was ranked #28 in The Insurance Journal’s Top 100 privately-held independent agencies for 2006. The Alliance’s premium volume has grown from $63 million in 1997 to over $250 million in 2006.

Presently, Alan serves as President and CEO of Sterner Insurance Associates, Inc. which operates two offices in Pennsylvania – one in Coopersburg and one in Doylestown – and serves over 3,000 customers in the Eastern Pennsylvania region.

“Sterner Insurance has grown from 2 employees in 1994 to a professional staff of over 15 today,” says Alan. “And the agency has expanded its service reach to include not only business insurance, but also personal lines, group, individual life and health insurance as well.”

Today, Alan is a board member on The Insurance Alliance of Central Pennsylvania and Westchester Capital Corporation. He is one of the founding shareholders of the Eastern Holding Corp., which went public in June 2006 under the NASDAQ symbol EIHI. Alan has his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation, completed nine of the ten part program for the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Curriculum, and received a blue ribbon for being the top of the class for Aetna’s Home Office Sales School in Hartford, Connecticut. He also keeps up to date on various insurance related topics by attending seminars in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and through annual continuing education updates for his CIC.

During his free time, Alan enjoys spending time with his family. He likes many outdoor activities, including camping and hiking. He is also a fan of Eagles football and fast cars.
